Recommend A… Book with a Blue Cover

August 13, 2012

Recommend A… is a weekly meme hosted by Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit.

This week the Recommend A… topic is book with a blue cover.  I’m picking the YA Fantasy, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. The US cover is black with some blue but the German cover is in shades of blue.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone – Laini Taylor

Series: Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Published: September 2011

Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is an incredibly original and mysterious book. You just don’t know where the story will take you. I loved the  unique plot and the great characters. Laini Taylor is a beautiful writer and the story is so well told.  The second book in the series, Days of Blood and Starlight is due in November, so if you haven’t read Daughter of Smoke and Bone yet, I recommend you do so. Like the rest of us, you’ll be anxiously counting down the days to November.

Seriously want to read this one! I didn’t know it was the start of a trilogy, although judging by current YA trends I shouldn’t have been surprised. 😉 Thanks for liking my post!

I really need to pick up a copy of this one. I love the cover and I can’t wait to read it. I’ve heard quite a few great things about this one. 🙂
