Recommend A… Book With A Character Who Plays Sports

August 27, 2012

Recommend A… is a weekly meme hosted by Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit.

The Recommend A… topic this week is book with a character who plays a sport.  Trying to think of a recommendation was kinda difficult, I really haven’t read all that many books featuring sports although I am a sport fan. Only three books or series came to mind, Harry Potter, Catching Jordan and The Chicago Stars Series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. All of these books are really good and I could easily recommend them all but for this post I’m going to suggest  The Chicago Stars.  The series is comprised of seven books that feature the lives and loves of the players and owners of the Chicago Stars American Football team. I adore these stories, they are so much fun and Susan Elizabeth Phillips writes great comedy scenes.

It Had To Be You – Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Series: Chicago Stars #1
Genre: Romance
Published: August 1994

The Windy City isn’t quite ready for Phoebe Somerville — the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who has just inherited the Chicago Stars football team. And Phoebe is definitely not prepared for the Stars’ head coach Dan Celebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. Celebow is everything Phoebe abhors. And the sexy new boss is everything Dan despises – a meddling bimbo who doesn’t know a pigskin from a pitcher’s mound.
So why is he drawn to the shameless sexpot like a heat-seeking missile? And why does the coach’s good ol’ boy charm leave cosmopolitan Phoebe feeling awkward, tongue-tied…and ready to fight?

Oh my gosh, this is currently in my TBR pile! My bookish bff recommended it to me b/c I am a lover of romances and she is generally a hater…but she loved this one. Actually, she loved the whole series. It’s like good book karma to see it recommended 😉
