Top Ten Tuesday

September 25, 2012

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. The Top Ten topic this week is:

Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished

Series that I have not finished can be broken up into those I just haven’t gotten around to and those series I’ve broken up with. There are many more in the latter category, I’m a fickle fan.

Series I’ve broken up with:

1. Sookie Stackhouse – Charlaine Harris

I can’t quite put my finger on why. I guess I just didn’t enjoy the books any longer. The last book that I read was the eight book, From Dead to Worse. The series lost my interest and Sookie’s romance life was heading in a direction I didn’t care for.

2. Sword of Truth – Terry Goodkind

The Sword of Truth series was part of a love triangle with The Wheel of Time series. I picked the Wheel of Time. There were a lot of similarities between the series and I had to choose one but the outcome was never in question.

3. Vampire Academy – Richelle Mead

I loved the first book, enjoyed the second but I lost interest in the third.

4. Anita Blake – Laurell K. Hamilton

The excessive sex and total absence of plot, in actual fact the sex became the plot finally caused the terminal break-up. Anita who had started as a kick-ass heroine had become unlikeable and not because of the sex. She turned into a b****.

5. Twilight – Stephanie Meyers

I loved the first book, oh Edward and Bella I was a shipper. True love!! However Bella’s annoying and obsessive tendencies became a little more obvious in the New Moon and totally overwhelming in Eclipse, so much so that I quit halfway through. Bella was never a fully formed character, did she have any hobbies or interests, did anything else matter in her life but Edward. Why did she have no friends at all, what about her Phoenix buddies? It’s like she arrived in Forks a blank canvas, with no thoughts or opinions or ambitions.

On the Fence:

6. Guild Hunter Series – Nalini Singh

The first few books were really enjoyable. But lately I get a sense of déjà vu with all of Ms Singh books: H/h hate lust each other, they can’t be together, they get together anyway, true love, danger – they survive, the heroine nearly dies, she’s inexplicably saved at the last second, true love and happy ever after.

7. Women of the Underworld – Kelley Armstrong

You had at me at Bitten but lost me at No Humans Involved.

Intend to Finish – haven’t found the time:

8. Cassandra Palmer – Karen Chance

The Cassandra Palmer books are action packed with a large cast of characters. I plan to reread the series to remind myself who’s who before I read the new book, Hunt the Moon.  Of course, so many books so little time applies.

9. A Song of Fire and Ice – GRRM

A Game of Thrones blew my mind. The death, the misery, bloody hell why were my favourite characters dying. I told my brother that I wanted happy endings. He told me it was unlikely. So we parted company… until the phenomenal TV series. Now that I know what to expect, I think I’ll appreciate these books. I fully intend to finish the series.

10. The Demon Trappers – Jana Oliver

Procrastination, pure and simple.

Poor Bella! hahahaahah she has a boyfriend she doesn’t need hobbies, interests or friends! I have to agree by book three I was fed up…but I still finished. Great list. 🙂

    • September 25, 2012 4:42 pm

Ha, who needs a life when you have Edward 🙂

  2. September 25, 2012 12:26 pm

Thanks for stopping by my TTT! I kind of wish I quit Twilight after Eclipse since I ended up disliking the last book so much. Great list!

  3. September 25, 2012 1:56 pm

I agree with Sookie! I’m still reading those, but I also really do like the TV show and they’re sooo different… And the TV show is better haha. At least in my opinion. But I agree, they’re becoming a bit dull as the series goes on! I think I’m on the 6th book coming up.

    • September 25, 2012 4:43 pm

I prefer the TV show too. I never liked Bill in the books but I do in the TV series.

  4. September 25, 2012 2:35 pm

Great list, glad you’re going to continue with GoT. I’m on book five..or rather not starting book five because the wait for book six seems so far away…like this I’m not getting any further with the story but have the reassurance that if I wanted to I could by simply resuming Bk5 😉 Loved the first season of the TV show and am waiting for the second to come out on DVD as I don’t get the TV series

    • September 25, 2012 4:44 pm

The second series isn’t as good but it’s still awesome 🙂

  5. September 25, 2012 2:37 pm

Great list! I love the Vampire Academy series but they did kind of stall in the middle.

I wish I hadn’t finished the Twilight series. It was such a ridiculous series.

  6. September 25, 2012 2:44 pm

Wow! I feel like stalking you to make you finish Twilight and Game of Thrones. I totally love Twilight, this was my first YA book and now I can’t like any other vampire books.
And You HAVE Martin’s series! Okay, books 1-3 are like, totally awesome, then book 4 made almost give up, but with book 5 he almost got back on track. Anyway, I have to finish the darn series because I need to know if Cersei dies or what. And you would want to want to know what happened to Cersei in book 5! Finally a taste of her own evil.

    • September 25, 2012 4:48 pm

I promise to finish Game of Thrones but not a chance with Twilight. My friend told me the plost of Breaking Dawn & I just couldn’t do that to myself. Plus Renesmee, what kind of name is that!

  7. September 25, 2012 2:45 pm

My God! and how can I edit my previous comment? So many typos… It’s your fault for not finishing the books.

    • September 25, 2012 4:45 pm

Ha. Some of my comments are barely coherent because of typos 🙂

  8. September 25, 2012 3:46 pm

So many of our TTT overlap! I think that Sookie and Game of Thrones are similar in that there is just SO MUCH READING to find out what happened, so so many other books you want to get to. They are such investments that don’t have a end on the horizon!

  9. September 25, 2012 4:20 pm

I think the Sookie series has gone on too long, but VA is a favorite of mine. The Game of Thrones series looks really good. Hope you enjoy the rest of the books!

    • September 25, 2012 6:32 pm

I agree Lucy, the Sookie series is too long. What wrong with a good old trilogy. Go out on top!

  10. September 25, 2012 5:04 pm

It’s not really my business but I recommend continuing Vampire Academy! Especially the last 2 books are unputdownable, I finished the series and both Bloodlines books this summer. I still haven’t read any Laurel K. Hamilton or Kelley Armstrong books *shame*. The serieses are just soooo long already that I’m too discouraged to start.
I’ve read the first Karen Chance book in German but didn’t like it much. The heroine had me really exasperated. Part of my dislike could be the translation’s fault (most of them suck, I no longer buy any), but I still don’t plan on continuing. What I also REALLY want to finish is the Demon Trappers series by Jana Oliver. Looooved book one!
Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

    • September 25, 2012 6:30 pm

I don’t think it was the translation Carmen, I disliked the heroine in Touch the Dark too. She gets better 🙂

  11. September 25, 2012 7:49 pm

I like how you broke your list up! I probably could have done a “Top Ten Series I Am Thinking of Breaking Up With”, haha! Instead I decided to focus mostly on those I am planning on finishing at some point. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  12. September 25, 2012 8:11 pm

I’m behind on the series A Song of Fire and Ice. I’m reading book 2, but haven’t gotten to far in it yet. 🙂

  13. September 25, 2012 8:27 pm

Your #6: YES, this is true. I’m still reading the books, but I’m a little wary, and I don’t have to get to them the DAY they come out any more. I do still love her Psy-Changeling books – those seem to have a bit more variety as far as plot. A bit.

Great list – thanks for sharing!

  14. September 25, 2012 8:29 pm

Thanks for stopping by mine! I too gave up on the Sookie books and wish I had on Twilight lol…I loved the Sookie books up until book 8 and then I slogged thru the next 2 and gave up after that.

  15. September 25, 2012 8:29 pm

Ah I totally forgot about the Anita Blake books. I read the 1st only and knew I would not read any more. I need a book with plot even if it has sex in it.

Thanks for stopping by our TTT

The Demon Trappers I love, I’m currently reading A Game of Thrones and it’s a long slong. Whilst I haven’t read The Vampire Academy or the Guild-Hunters but both are books I really want to read.

I can totally understand the dropping of the Twilight series. Looking back, I do not understand how I could obsess to read them!

  17. September 25, 2012 11:55 pm

I need to read Vampire Academy and Song of Fire and Ice. Love Game of Thrones! The demon trappers looks really good. Love the title!

  18. September 26, 2012 12:04 am

I tried sooo hard to like the Anita Blake series. It just never did it for me. 😦 Here is my list: Angela’s Anxious Life

    Angie

    Hello Adina 🙂
Thank you for visiting my blog!!;) Okay so you have several favorites of mine on your unfinished list here, lol. Vampire Academy, Guild Hunter, Twilight, Sookie Stackhouse but I will say that the Sookie books went downhill directly after book 8. Booooo. Hope you have a lovely week reading. 🙂

  20. September 26, 2012 2:29 am

Twilight should have been a stand alone. There was no need for it to go on and on like it did. Seriously. As for GRRMartin.. I want to try them but it’s a big time investment. Don’t know if I have it in me right now. VA is a series I cannot wait to start. Just haven’t yet! And Sookie.. man. The last book has been the first interesting one in like three books. That part does suck. But it’s almost over! I say wait until they’re all out. 🙂 Thanks!

  21. September 27, 2012 12:03 am

Although not included on my list, I gave up on the Twilight series, too. I stopped after the second book and have no intention of going back. I have the first book in the Sword of Truth series on my shelf, but have yet to give it a try since I have so many other series to finish first.

  22. September 27, 2012 2:40 am

I adored the The Demon Trapper’s Daughter and can’t wait to try the rest of the series! Thanks for stopping by Libby Blog!

Vampire Academy is worth finishing. And I’m glad there’s someone else with A Song of Ice and Fire on their list. And ugh! Anita Blake! So much wasted potential!

I also started the Sookie Stackhouse books and never got to finishing them. I’m about to start the Kelley Armstrong series, so I’ll go in wary.

  24. September 28, 2012 11:35 am

Bell has Edward so obviously she doesn’t need any friends or hobbies 😉

I am caught up in the Sookie Stackhouse books, but that’s only because I know the next one she is writing is the last one, and I like closure. Otherwise I would have given up too.
